Join us for the first session of the NWL in Second Life project, which aims to provide staff development and collaboration in using Second Life with students. We will look at a broad overview of Second Life, what it means, contains, and does, get participants set up with a free account, and learn how to move around and communicate.
Second Life is a three-dimensional online environment. Users, known as "residents", can create their online persona or "avatar", collaborate, build, create, buy, sell, meet, discuss, and learn. Hundreds of educational institutions, including regional districts like Southern Lehigh and Hatboro-Horsham, have invested dollars and training time in Second Life to create spaces where students in the humanities, the sciences, the arts, and other areas develop engaging projects.
Each of the eight sessions will focus on developing a basic skill or exploring a possible educational application in Second Life. The first session will begin with zero assumed knowledge! Alright, you need to at least be able to turn on the computer and fire up the browser...
